The Most Unique Popcorn I ever tried

Popcorns are essential in pretty much every aspects. From watching movie to party snacks, popcorn always wins!

For me, popcorn is something that I really love. Every time I go to watch a movie in a theatre, I always get popcorn as my go-to movie snack. Whenever I was in Korea watching movies in theatres, I would always get a caramel popcorn. However, I couldn't find that flavor at many of the theatres I went to while in the United States, so I usually stick with classic butter popcorn. I truly believe that popcorn is the safest snack to choose at a movie theatre, as even when they don't make good pretzels or chips, it is always good.

In this post, I specifically wanted to express my love for my favorite snack, popcorn. I can't say enough good things about popcorn, as not only are they the best movie theatre snacks, but they're also good for parties. Popcorn never goes wrong at a party, and whenever I bring 2 bags of microwavable popcorn, the bowl empties quickly.

I know popcorn is greasy and not good for my health. However, I can't stop it! I even buy various boxes of microwave popcorn from different brands just to find out the best ones! To be fair, my favorite microwave popcorn brands are Pop Secret and Orville Redenbacher's Movie Theatre Butter flavor. These two brands have exactly what I'm looking for in popcorn. Pop Secret and Orville Redenbacher both have the right saltiness, that buttery taste in my mouth, and even have the savory flavor in the popcorn.

Until I tried this new brand, I always thought that popcorn was mostly greasy and buttery. However, this new brand of popcorn I tried today redefined the standard of popcorn.

In this blog, I will be discussing a brand called Lesser Evil and its two flavors: Himalayan Salt and Himalayan Gold.

I wasn't familiar with this brand until I was introduced to it at a club meeting on campus.

I got these two bags of popcorn at a club meeting, where the executive board brought snacks, and our alumni guest speaker works at a food and beverage PR agency, where she worked with various food brands, including Lesser Evil!

Even then, I always wanted to venture beyond these two brands, so I decided to try ready-made popcorn. Lesser Evil is a brand I've never tried before, but it certainly has the great it-factor. Their popcorn isn't as greasy as I thought, and the butter doesn't get on my hands, making it easier to eat without dropping artificial butter on my clothes and eventually staining them.

1. Himalayan Salt Flavor

I first tasted the Himalayan Pink Salt flavor from Lesser Evil, so I can compare the buttery and salty flavors.

To begin with, it has the right saltiness! I actually got really curious about the taste of this popcorn, as it was salty at first, but there was a bit of a sweet aftertaste. But when I looked at the package, they used coconut oil! Now that I eat the popcorn knowing what is inside, it feels so different. I never tried popcorn with coconut oil, but I realized it is a good vegan alternative to butter. I can still feel that little bit of greasiness on the popcorn, but the taste was more refreshing. Himalayan pink salt is well-known worldwide, and I was surprised by how rich the flavor of this popcorn was!

For this specific flavor, I give it 9/10. The flavor was great, but I didn't like the coconut aftertaste from the popcorn. However, I would've really grown to love this flavor if the coconut taste wasn't so strong. Even though the aftertaste of coconut was too strong, I really thought the flavor of Himalayan Salt was very refreshing for me.

2. Himalayan Gold Flavor

This was the Himalayan Gold flavor package, and I really like that they used different colors that correspond to the image on the popcorn.

This flavor was actually very surprising. I thought the flavor of Himalayan Gold would be very buttery, but it was actually a bit sweet. When I saw the package, I expected the buttery flavor, but this particular popcorn was very surprising for me. This popcorn was sweet and less buttery than I thought.

As an avid fan of buttery flavors, I wasn't sure if this specific flavor would suit my palate. However, I really liked the idea of having a less buttery flavor on the popcorn to make sure it's not too bland.

I rate this popcorn an 8.5/10 because I felt the flavor wasn't something I could really appreciate. As much as I love the buttery flavor of the popcorn, I wasn't sure if I would eat it every time. Honestly, I preferred the Himalayan Salt Flavor from Lesser Evil because I liked the saltiness of this popcorn, and I really wish the Himalayan Gold Flavor had that mild buttery flavor while also being the best buttery popcorn I tried.

Overall, this popcorn was very unique in many ways. As I was searching for popcorn at Target, I realized there were more flavors than just Himalayan Salt and Himalayan Gold. When I have the opportunity, I would definitely be open to trying more flavors from Lesser Evil, as the brand deserves more recognition and I would like to try more of their products.
