Hi everyone! Welcome to my blog!
In this post, I wanted to talk about mental health for college students.
Mental health is not a widely discussed topic for any international students. Some cultures consider mental health as a taboo, or a sign that you are weak. However, it is important to be in the right headspace. This year, I started to prioritize mental health than ever and to be honest, it felt great!
This fall, I recently started going to therapy and I have never felt better before.
Ever since the start of the senior year of college, I knew that my mental health has been taking a toll on me.
Even before I started my senior year, I figured out that my concentration was low.
Luckily, my parents saw me struggle and recommended me to get tested and go through therapy.
When my psychiatrist told me that I have mild anxiety, I finally knew the answer on why I was struggling. I was too anxious to do something and worried that I would fail if I do it. She also recommended me to see a therapist even when I go back to school and that is how my therapy journey started.
Seeing a therapist has been a great solution to me. I was able to balance through grueling workloads and stress that was coming from all the classes. Another great thing that happened to me is that I got a fidget toy, aka. stress ball at a bingo event!
When I felt anxious, I would just have to squeeze my stress ball and that way, I was able to stay focused and manage my feelings. When I don't see my therapist, I would write a journal or just listen to music to distract myself from stress.
Getting all the help you need is absolutely important. It makes you stay motivated and get back in the right shape. If you're body is sending signals, that means you might want to look back and take a deep breath. It might be your brain that has overworked and you feel burned out from everything you went through.
Even though my mental health journey is just starting, I am confident to say that I feel great!
Thank you so much for reading!
